In early 2009, total sales of the Fiesta since its launch 33 years earlier passed the 3,500,000 mark in Britain, making it the second most popular car ever sold there. It has been Britain's most popular new car in 1990, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2009.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta makes its U.S. debut after being sold in other markets for a couple of years. This subcompact car comes as a 4-door hatchback or a 4-door sedan. Hatchbacks are offered in SE and SES trim levels, while sedans come in S, SE, and SEL versions. The sole engine for all models is a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder that teams with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual that behaves much like an automatic. S and SE models have standard 15-inch wheels. SEL and SES have 16s, with 17s optional. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, front-side airbags, and a driver knee airbag. A tilt and telescopic steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, and capless fuel filler are standard. Among the available features are Ford's Sync voice-activated control for cell phones and MP3 players, sunroof, keyless engine start, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. A number of dealer-installed dress-up accessories are offered as well.
